The largest and most exciting of the Great Lakes cities, Chicago extends for 40 km along the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. This is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country, famous for its museums, numerous first class restaurants and cafes, and innumerable bars and nightclubs, the city that keeps the best traditions of the masters of jazz and blues. Chicago is the birthplace of modern architecture. A set of high-rise buildings and form the center of Chicago, colorful mixing with historical buildings such as the building of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in the Loop. Complexes Merchandise Mart, Sears Tower, the tallest building in the United States and the third on the planet, Trump Tower and others form a forest of skyscrapers, well distinguishable from the far suburbs. The city is famous for its wonderful parks which are worth visiting. There is Grant Park, Millennium Park on the east side of the city with the Lincoln Park Zoo and Biography Theater on the north side, and Barnem Jackson in the south and of course the famous Hyde Park on the south side, extending to 11 km south-east of downtown. Within the same "green system" are nearly four dozen beaches, some small bird sanctuary, a business center McCormick Place and Soldier Field. Enjoy a huge amusement park with its own children's museum, visitors center, an outdoor theater, a botanical garden, Ferris Wheel and the whole complex of cafes and restaurants. The main historical attraction is Chicago Water Tower, which is one of the few buildings that survived the "Great Fire" in 1871 and now houses the Tourist Information Centre.
